The eco upgrades are complete on the Cobble Hill office where the halogen track lighting was replaced with LED fixtures. A programmable thermostat was also installed. This has resulted in a 38% decrease in energy consumption, with an average daily consumption down to 18 kWh/day. The $420 cost of the upgrades represents 3,900 kWh at BC Hydro’s base rate, whereas we are projecting savings of at least 4,000 kWh in the first year. This gives the project a payback period of less than 1 year and a great long term return. It’s a modest example of how capital budgeting can help clarify financial decisions and a reminder that small details can have a big impact.
